Our projects

Creating lasting impact through community-driven initiatives

Through our projects, we turn advocacy into tangible impact—empowering older people, strengthening communities, and promoting intergenerational solidarity. Each project is designed to create lasting change and ensure that older people in Zambia can live with dignity, purpose, and independence.

Intergenerational Skills Development projects

In the districts of Rufunsa and Mukonchi, our Intergenerational Skills Development Project brings together young and older people mentored by skilled professionals to develop skills, strengthen community bonds, and build sustainable livelihoods.

Through hands-on training in carpentry, tailoring, and mechanics, X trainees in Mukonchi and X in Rufunsa are gaining valuable technical skills while fostering mutual learning across generations. This initiative not only promotes employment and self-reliance but also celebrates the wisdom, experience, and potential of older people as active contributors to community development.

Income-Generating Activity projects

In Rufunsa, we are supporting a local cooperative of older people to build sustainable livelihoods through the cultivation of red onions and other vegetables. Participants received training in sustainable farming techniques and were equipped with essential resources — including a water tank, a borehole, and solar panels — to ensure year-round production.

In Mukonchi, our poultry project supports older people’s economic independence through a sustainable income-generating activity. Participants received training in poultry management and business skills. By selling chickens within their communities, they are now able to earn a steady income, improve household nutrition, and contribute to the local economy.

These initiatives empower older people and members of their households to generate income, strengthen food security, and enhance their independence, while demonstrating the transformative impact of community-led, sustainable agriculture.

Humanitarian responses

Our humanitarian response initiatives ensure that older people are not left behind in times of crisis.

In 2024, our Cholera Response Project in Lusaka provided targeted support to older people through hygiene promotion, cholera prevention, and community awareness activities to prevent the spread of the disease.

In march 2025, in Lusangazi, our Flood Response Project assisted older people’s households affected by flooding, offering stipends to help them rebuild their livelihoods.

Across both initiatives, our focus remains on protecting the dignity, health, and resilience of older people during emergencies.

As part of our partnership with SHAPE, we organised a workshop in august 2025 to redesign our strategic plan for 2025-2030 with the support of our colleagues from Zimbabwe, NANZ. During this one-week workshop, our staff has been trained to
